Flour Wedding

Back in July I did a cupcake tasting for Atlanta couple Maggie and Aaron. They selected Strawberry Margarita, Tiramisu, Shermanator, Vanilla to be served at their beautiful wedding on Captiva at South Seas Plantation.
The Bride and Groom worked with hip photog couple Ashley and Sam Brockington (http://www.ashleybrockinton.com/). They captured some great moments, as you can see in the images above.
The Ladies at Weddings by Socialites worked their magic once again to make everything go seamlessly. (http://www.weddingsbysocialites.com/).

Feel Guilty About Eating Cupcakes?

Becky Enjoying her Flour Scary Eyeball Cupcakes

No need to feel guilty about indulging this holiday season.....

Last year I discovered the most fun exercise class EVER- ZUMBA!

Zumba is a Cardiovascular Latin dancing class, and the sensation is sweeping Southwest Florida.

Zumba Instructor Extraordinaire, Becky Lang (http://www.zumbawithbecky.com/), has been helping me burn off those extra cupcakes calories. For our Zumba Halloween Party, Becky ordered some Pumpkin Spice Halloween Cupcakes.

Please check out Becky's blog (link above) to find out more about Zumba. Hope to see you there!

The Shermanator Marries a Bensonator!!

One of my best friends, Jessica Sherman (the inspiration behind The Shermanator) got married to Ryan Benson September 20th. What a great wedding!

Mike from Impressions Photography did an amazing job capturing the event (www.impress-photo.com)

I also must mention that Kelly and her team from Weddings by Socialites,(www.weddingsbysocialites.com) who made sure every detail was executed with perfection. They also saved the bride from a near flower catastrophe.

Andrea and his "Crew" from Dulce Vita on Sanibel prepared phenomenal food and an intimate atmosphere, while guests danced the night away to the smooth vocals of Dana Paul.

Wedding Cupcakes

With all these weddings coming up, I have been on the hunt for cupcake accessories to make the cupcakes look extra special. I was so excited that my aunt found this great website, paperorchid.com, where they sell these cupcake wrappers, as well other specialty paper items. So I did a little experimenting this weekend, and I think the wrapper adds that extra special touch. What do you think? Leave me a comment.

August Showers Bring More Flours

It's Hot out there!
And I'm int the kitchen baking up some great things for August.

The Chronis Cupcake

Kimi and Vasso were married June 20th... and what a beautiful beach wedding they had! They also had the best Coconut and KeyLime cookies as party favors- so of coarse I had to name a cupcake after them!

This cupcake starts with a key lime cake, that is filled with my homemade key lime custard, and topped with a coconut cream cheese frosting- then sprinkled with graham crackers and coconut!

Fish Lips Paper Designs

Kimi and I went to Design School together. She is a very talented designer, and being the entrepreneur she is, as well as a lover of the out doors, she became the founder of Fish Lips Paper Designs last year. Here designs are beautiful and unique, and all printed on recycled paper with soy-based ink. Check out her website at http://www.fishlipspaperdesigns.com/

We've been working on photos for my website, which is still in the early stages of planning. Last Sunday we had a CUPCAKE PARTY... these little cuties were hilarious! Wedding Cupcakes

Maggie and Aaron will be getting married November 8, and I spent today experimenting with different cupcake design options. They have decided on serving 4 different flavors of cupcakes, so we would like to distinguish the different flavors with different decorations. I love the look of white on white, so I used my vanilla buttercream frosting in combination with a granulated sugar to introduce texture. I also played with the idea of using colored frostings, which I typically do not like, but the I surprising like the look of these cupcakes. Lastly, Maggie wanted to explore the option of personalizing their cupcakes with their initials. I was happy with the results... we'll see how the bride feels.

Wedding Bells Are Ringing

It's that time of year. Brides and grooms from across the country are planning their weddings in Southwest Florida. I agree with them, this is one of the most beautiful and romantic places to get married. But the Tommy Bahama shirts and rhinestone flip flops are not the only creative twists these stylish couples will be sporting on their wedding day. They are choosing Flour Designer Cupcakes to add the special unique touch to complete their dream wedding.

When Kelly McWilliams, owner of Weddings By Socialites (http://www.weddingsbysocialites.com/), contacted me about arranging a tasting for one of her clients, I was elated. I have been preparing all weekend for 5 cupcake tasting... the trend has finally arrived to Southwest Florida and I'm embracing it!

From left to right we have Vanilla Bean, Bananas Foster, Coconut Rum, Orange You Glad You're Going Nuts, Tiramisu, Margaritaville, and The Shermanator. I am happy to custom design cupcakes for brides and grooms.

Why I Started A Blog

After 7 months of recipe experimentation, and building a loyal client base, I have decided to start a blog so everyone can check-in to see what FLOUR is up to. Tomorrow I will be featured in the Food Section of the News-Press as one of the local cupcake entrepreneurs in Southwest Florida. I had great chat with Drew Sterwald (of the Fort Myers News-Press) about what it is that people are loving so much about the cupcake trend sweeping our nation. I see cupcakes as accessories that can be custom designed to fit whatever style you choose. But it's not only important that these sweet mini-cakes match your "tablescape" and personal style.... they MUST taste fabulous as well. That's where I come in. Of coarse quality ingredients are essential in producing a high quality product, but when dealing with cupcakes, it's also imporant that they look great too.... And most importantly that my clients are happy.

This month I am featuring 2 Flavors of the Month:
Derby Pie- Chocolate cake filled with everything found in the traditional Derby Pie... pecans, chocolate, and bourbon, then topped with a bourbon buttercream frosting....delicious!
Strawberry Cheesecake- Light and fluffy vanilla cake with a strawberry cream cheese filling, then topped with my champagne buttercream frosting.

Coming soon..... Cupcake Club..... Stay tuned for more information
